General Information about Online Learning

Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) uses online learning for:

  • original credit for students in Alternative schools and Care and Treatment programs
  • credit recovery for high school students who have failed to earn a credit
    • Evening High School during the school year
    • St Paul College campus of Summer Term

All online students must be at least 16 years of age by the last day of the session or quarter that they attend.

We use APEX Learning courseware for the curriculum

  • is state standards-based
  • is web-based (available to students at all times 24/7/365 during their course).
  • is flexible enough for us to limit the number of units required per session.
  • has built in tools that help struggling readers, English language learners, and students with disabilities.

Students should expect to work approximately 20-30 hours per course during a session at home on their online class, preferably every day.  Online courses include written assignments as well as online ones.  All work must be turned in to the teacher by the deadline given.  There are no extensions for any reason, because our teachers are no longer employed after the session ends.
